Formatting the SD card
In case the SD card has been corrupted or you want to start fresh, you can format the SD card. This will erase all data on the card.
1. Insert the SD card into a card reader and connect it to your computer
For step-by-step instructions on removing the SD card from the R2 and using a card reader, check out the R2 & R2 Pro - SD Card Update video guide.
2. Open a Finder window and locate the SD card drive in the sidebar
In this example, it is labeled "NO NAME"
3. Launch Disk Utility using Spotlight Search
Press CMD + Spacebar to open Spotlight Search. Type "Disk Utility" and press Enter to launch the app.
4. Select and Erase the SD Card
In Disk Utility, locate the SD card drive in the sidebar. Click on the "Erase" button at the top of the window to proceed.
5. Configure the "Erase" settings for the SD card
When the "Erase" dialog box appears, set the following options:
- Name: Leave as "NO NAME" or set a custom name if desired
- Format: MS-DOS (FAT32)
Once you have set the options, click on the "Erase" button to format the SD card. You will see a success dialog box once the formatting is complete.
Go back to the Finder window, and you should see that the SD card drive is now empty and ready for use.
6. Click the link below to download the SD card preset files
This preset contains both the Control Module and Induction Module files for the R2.
Download R2 SD Card Presets7. Locate the downloaded SD card preset files and copy them to the SD card
Open a second Finder window and navigate to the folder where you downloaded the SD card preset files. Double-click the ZIP file to extract its contents. This will create a folder containing the preset files.
Once the folder is extracted, you will see multiple files inside it. These files are the presets that you will copy to the SD card.
- Open the folder containing the preset files.
- Select all the files inside the folder by holding Shift and clicking the first and last file. Do not drag the entire folder itself, only the files inside it.
- Drag and drop the selected files into the SD card drive in the Finder window. See the example below:
8. Safely eject the SD card from your computer
To prevent data corruption, right-click on the SD card drive in the Finder sidebar and select "Eject". Once the drive disappears from the sidebar, you can safely remove the SD card from your computer.
9. Finalize the firmware update process
To finalize the firmware and induction module update, continue with the steps outlined in the RoasTime R2 Firmware Update Guide.
